How to Balance Your 7 Chakras for Better Energy and Clarity

Chakras are Energy centres in the body that can help guide our emotional, mental and physical well-being. When they’re in balance, you may feel clear and Energised, but when they’re out of alignment, it’s easy to feel “off” without being able to pinpoint exactly why. 


Here’s a guide to each chakra and tips to help you keep them balanced.

Root Chakra


Location: Base of the spine

Colour: Red

Focus: Grounding and stability


The Root Chakra is all about feeling grounded and stable. If it’s unbalanced, you may feel stuck, overly tired or a sense of expending a shit load of Energy getting nowhere! A scattered Root Chakra can also lead to dropping things or difficulty finishing tasks.


How to Balance:

  • Spend time outside and breath in nice and deep.  Feel the Energy of that breath flowing all the way down your torso.

  • Visualise Energy coming up from the Earth to help ground you. Doesn't matter if you are in a building or in the car - imagine that Energy bringing a feeling of calming vibrancy to your whole body, beginning at your feet and legs.

  • Helpful Crystals: Ruby, Garnet, Hematite and Black Tourmaline.

  • Essential Oils: Sandalwood, Cedarwood and Vetiver.


Sacral Chakra

Location: Below the belly button

Colour: Orange

Focus: Creativity, relationships and nurturing


The Sacral Chakra connects to how we nurture ourselves and others. When unbalanced, you may feel unworthy or disconnected from creativity. Trauma, especially from childhood, can often show up here.


How to Balance:

  • Practice self-care activities and embrace your creative side

  • Use affirmations focused on worthiness, acceptance and forgiveness of yourself and others

  • Helpful Crystals: Carnelian, Amber, Orange Calcite

  • Essential Oils: Orange, Jasmine, Ylang Ylang


Solar Plexus Chakra


Location: Between the navel and ribcage

Colour: Yellow

Focus: Confidence, motivation and purpose


The Solar Plexus Chakra is your personal power centre, linked to drive, willpower and that “gut feeling.” If this chakra is out of balance, you may feel uncertain or lack momentum in life.


How to Balance:

  • Set small, achievable goals to remind yourself you are capable and worthy

  • Breathe into your diaphragm whilst reminding yourself you are entirely deserving of you dreams and aspirations

  • Helpful Crystals: Citrine, Amber

  • Essential Oils: Lemon, Grapefruit, Chamomile


Heart Chakra

Location: Chest area

Colour: Green

Focus: Love, compassion and self-acceptance


The Heart Chakra is the centre of compassion and connection, both with ourselves and others. When it’s drained, you might feel disconnected, especially after interactions that are Energetically taxing.


How to Balance:

  • Take time for self-care activities like walks or baths

  • Reflect on what brings you joy and make time for it regularly

  • Helpful Crystals: Rose Quartz, Green Aventurine, Jade

  • Essential Oils: Rose, Lavender, Geranium


Throat Chakra


Location: Neck

Colour: Light Blue

Focus: Communication and expression


The Throat Chakra supports clear communication and self-expression. If it’s blocked, you may struggle to speak up or find yourself frequently misinterpreting information.


How to Balance:

  • Sing the daggiest songs you know or scream into a pillow to shift any stuck Energy here

  • Practice relaxing your jaw, throat and tongue (yes, really!) to release any tension

  • Helpful Crystals: Lapis Lazuli, Sodalite, Aquamarine

  • Essential Oils: Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Blue Chamomile


Third Eye Chakra

Colour: Indigo or dark blue

Focus: Intuition, insight and creativity



The Third Eye Chakra is closely connected to intuition and creativity. If blocked, you may struggle with decision-making or feel disconnected from your intuition.



How to Balance:

  • Engage in creative activities like painting, writing, baking or redecorating (anything that you enjoy) to stimulate intuition

  • Smudge with white sage, palo santo or incense.  Focus on feeling peaceful whilst sending that Energy to the space between your eyebrows

  • Helpful Crystals: Amethyst, Selenite, Clear Quartz

  • Essential Oils: Patchouli, Lavender


Crown Chakra


Location: Top of the head

Colour: Purple

Focus: Spiritual connection and awareness


The Crown Chakra is your connection to higher consciousness. A balanced Crown Chakra can lead to a sense of clarity and alignment, while an unbalanced one may cause confusion and overthinking.


How to Balance:

  • Meditate, gratitude or spending time in nature will support this chakra beautifully

  • Connect with your spiritual connection/s, your way as regularly as is practical for you

  • Helpful Crystals: Amethyst, Clear Quartz, Moonstone

  • Essential Oils: Frankincense, Neroli, Lavender


Understanding Your Dominant Chakra


Most people have a dominant chakra that they rely on most heavily, often linked to their strengths or personality. Keeping this chakra balanced is key to maintaining overall energy alignment. Regularly tune in to see if your dominant chakra needs extra attention and support.
