Whipper Snippers and Downloads: How My Oracle Decks Were Born

Inspiration strikes in the most unexpected places - at least, that’s how it happened for me. I wasn’t sitting in deep meditation or carefully planning a creative breakthrough when the idea for my first Oracle card deck came to me.

No, I was out in the garden, doing some whipper snipping! Covered in grass clippings and immersed in the repetitive motion, I started laughing out loud as messages and ideas began flooding in.

Turns out, whipper snipping was the perfect way to clear more than just weeds - it cleared my head and made space for the downloads that became the foundation of my Oracle decks.

The Need for Simplicity

At the time, I was searching for something straightforward, something that cut through the noise and fluff of the spiritual world. I’d used plenty of Oracle decks before, but they were either too flowery, too vague or overly complicated. I needed clarity and alignment - fast! I decided to create a deck that would deliver exactly that.

I knew I wanted the cards to feel approachable, bold and totally fucking fun. Nothing convoluted, nothing over-thought. Just messages that hit home, whether they made you laugh, think or hopefully both.

When Inspiration Hits (Literally, in the Garden)

There’s something magical about mundane tasks. When your hands are busy and your brain isn’t trying too hard, ideas often have the freedom to flow. While I was out with the whipper snipper, the messages for each card just started popping into my head, one after another.

It was so clear, so fast and so bloody exciting that I had to stop. Right there, mid-task, I put the whipper snipper down (which I never do without tidying up first!) and practically ran into the house, peeling off my safety gear along the way.

I grabbed my laptop and started typing, letting everything pour out while it was still fresh. In about 45 minutes, I had written the card titles of the entire deck plus a solid outline of the booklet meanings.

Creative Blocks (and Busting Through Them)

Even though the initial download was lightning-fast, the journey to actually create the decks was anything but smooth. I hit plenty of roadblocks along the way:

  • Overthinking the Artwork: At first, I was convinced I needed an artist to create intricate illustrations for the cards. I even spoke to a few artists, but I couldn’t quite communicate what I wanted. That’s when I realised I was overcomplicating it. The cards were meant to be simple, so I decided to stick with bold colours and abstract designs.

  • Finding the Right Printer: Printing Oracle decks isn’t cheap and finding someone local who could handle the job felt like an impossible task - until I met Filomena, one of my clients, who turned out to be exactly the printer I needed.

  • Money Mindset: Like many creative projects, there were costs involved and I had to work through my own blocks about investing in the process.

Once I’d pushed through these hurdles, everything started falling into place.

Trusting the Process

I’ve always believed that when the universe nudges you, you’ve got to pay attention. Those downloads in the garden didn’t come out of nowhere - they were The Universe’s way of saying, “Get on with it!”

I knew I couldn’t wait around. If I didn’t act on the idea, someone else might and I’d kick myself for not listening. So I made the decision to move forward, even when things felt uncertain.

What I Learned About Creativity

The biggest lesson from creating my Oracle decks? Don’t wait for perfect conditions. Inspiration rarely shows up when it’s convenient. It happens in the messy, ordinary moments - like whipper snipping.

And when it does, act on it. Grab your phone, notebook or laptop and capture those ideas before they slip away. Creativity is fleeting and I’ve learned that when something comes through with that much clarity, it’s worth chasing.

Oracle Decks That Feels Like Me

Ultimately, all the decks became a true reflection of who I am: a mix of Woo Woo, practicality and a healthy dose of humour. The process of creating them wasn’t just about making a product - it was about learning to trust myself, lean into the downloads and let go of perfection.

Whether I was laughing behind my whipper snipper or piecing together the final designs, this journey has been one of the most fulfilling creative experiences of my life.
